'Starsky & Hutch' short animation

Starsky & Hutch: The Chase
// Personal Experimental Animation Project, 2018-2019 //

'The Chase' short animation is a tribute to the original 1970s TV series, 'Starsky & Hutch'. The main goal of the animation was to use as much cinematic style and visual language as possible (wide-angle shots, 3D lens flares) with traditional 2D techniques (frame by frame animation).

In my research, I was focusing on the streets of LA and New York City from the 1970s. I found a few screenshots and photos from the original TV series and used several videos about the famous Gran Torino and 1975 Chevrolet Camaro from Youtube (such as The Aficionauto channel). They helped me to depict the cars' motions frame by frame.

I am not a professional animator that is why I had to stick to video references during the drawing phases.
For the audio, I edited a few streets sounds from Youtube to create a more organic vibe and realistic atmosphere (street and inner-city sounds, Gran Torino's engine, etc.).

I learned valuable things about myself and the whole 2D animation process after I completed the project.
I had a substantial amount of mental and creative barriers daily. However, I tried to listen to my intuition, trusted in my original visual ideas and concepts and just kept moving forward.
